Hi classmate!
If I had to
mention my favorite band, I’d probably choose Illapu as it. Illapu is a chilean
musical band formed by musicians of Antofagasta at some point of the 70’s I
think. The word “Illapu” comes from the aymara language and means “thunder” in
english. I think they chose that name because of the power they wanted to give
to their music.
The type of music they play is latinamerican folklore, but the focus mostly on andean music. You can easily recognize their style because of the instruments they play with: charangos, pan flutes and quenas are some of them.
My favorite song – if I have to choose one – has a lot to do with the reason why I like this band so much. It’s called “Lejos del amor”, and I enjoy to listen to it because it reminds me of my father singing it to me when I was just a little girl. The relation between the memories of my father and this band gives Illapu a special place in my heart.
